| Remarks | Boats can anchor off Purple Turtle Beach, north of Portsmouth, avoiding the coral beds in the deeper water. Native vendors come out to the boats offering services. You are strongly advised to deal only with members of the Indian River Tour Guides Association (IRTGA), who are trained and wear an official badge or t-shirt. Only one IRTGA member currently has VHF: Martin Carriere on channel 16. His call sign is the name of his boat: 'Providence'. Restaurants also offer services such as jerry-jug amounts of water, and arranging laundry. Safari Tours act as generally helpful agents; they monitor VHF 16 or 68 on an occasional basis. |
