| Local notes | Boca Grande is a town on seven-mile-long Gasparilla Island. It is midway between Fort Myers and Sarasota, a tourist and sportfishing destination. Family oriented recreation is specially catered for. The whole of Gasparilla Island is a bird sanctuary, though the non-edible Tarpon fish is considered fair game here, and pursued vigorously in the Spring. Other fish are pursued all year round. |
