The first time you meet the phrase "skinny-water piloting" may be in relation to the Florida Keys. The shallow-water hazards are well marked, but you need to watch out for them. The Keys are sometimes named Upper, Middle and Lower. The Upper Keys are from Key Largo to Long Key. The Middle Keys are from the south end of Long Key to the south end of Marathon. The Lower Keys are from the south of Sunshine Key to Key West.
