Regional NotesEleuthera has more than 300 miles of coastline. Founded in 1648 by Puritans seeking religious freedom (its name is Greek for 'freedom'), Eleuthera has a fascinating history. It was the first enduring European settlement in the Bahamas, and its constitutional republic was the first to be established in the New World, antedating the United States. Nevertheless, tourism is precariously developed here. Marinas and other facilities may be short-lived. Check them out before travelling. Regional LinksThe Locations |
